If you hope to do an independent project or your final thesis (not possible in all programmes), TAMK first needs to find a supervising teacher and a topic for you. Your exchange can be confirmed only after this. You should plan your studies directly with your supervising teacher.

Applicants must indicate the TAMK Degree Programme they are most interested in. Exchange students may select courses from any degree programme, but the Head of the Degree Programme and/or teacher of the course makes the final decision on whether an exchange student will be accepted for a particular course. If there is not enough space in a particular course, priority in registration is given in the following order:

  1. degree students of the particular programme
  2. degree students of other programmes
  3. exchange students who have a background in the particular field
  4. exchange students who do not have a background in the particular field
  5. Unipoli exchange students

The normal course load for degree students is 60 credits per academic year (1 cr = 1 ECTS = 27 hours of student work). TAMK requires all exchange students to complete minimum 5 cr per study month.

Language Support and Policy

TAMK organizes Finnish language and culture courses before the start of each academic year. During the semester, the incoming exchange students and staff have a possibility to study Finnish and other languages. They can also participate to language courses organized together with other higher education institutions in Tampere (Unipoli Tampere). The Finnish language studies are highly recommended for the incoming mobility participants to ensure the smooth integration to the Finnish society and the studies at TAMK.
